As Smith Struggles With Rangers, Holland Looks Smart For Letting Him Go

@burchie_kid Take it for what it’s worth, and it’s far from vindication for Detroit’s beleaguered general manager, but Ken Holland received two draft picks for a player who’s been a healthy scratch for the past four games with his new team. That would be defenseman Brendan Smith, who played well enough for the Rangers following last season’s deadline deal to earn a four-year contract with the club in the offseason. But he’s been a shell of himself in year two. Less snarl. More turnovers. Career-low possession metrics. All of it has contributed to Smith and his $4.35 million cap hit watching six of the Rangers’ first 17 games from the… Read More

Ryan Babel’s Holland return may prove bittersweet after years of wasted talent

On 28 August 2015, a little over five years since he watched from the bench as Holland lost the World Cup final to Spain, Ryan Babel got himself caught up in a Twitter storm. Babel aimed a dig at Rafael Benítez, the man who brought him to Liverpool, and then he ended up sparking a sexism furore after an ill-advised response to a female fan who had disagreed with the initial post from a stagnant 28-year-old footballer who had seen better days. It was a classic example of there being such a thing as bad publicity because not only did Babel look like an idiot, the controversy was also a… Read More

The Internet Just Can’t Quit These Memes of Tom Holland Pronouncing ‘Croissant’

If there’s one love that endures, it’s the Internet’s endless fondness for the way Tom Holland once said the word “croissant.” Back in 2015, the English Spider-Man: Homecoming star mentioned the buttery, crescent-shaped pastry during an interview. He was explaining that after giving up sugar for a long period for the film In the Heart of the Sea, he finally indulged in a croissant on set. And the Internet had a field day with his diligent French pronunciation. One fan went so far as to edit a YouTube video of him saying the word on loop. Holland is aware of the joke, too. Just last month, he spoke on BBC… Read More
